Nurtured by Nature

I live on a Cumbrian farm and am fortunate enough to photograph the beautiful Cumbrian Countryside which holds more than just physical beauty to me. Experiencing fresh air on my face whilst viewing stunning Cumbrian scenery - patchwork fields with a backdrop of undulating Fells to finer details such as the gnarled bark of an ancient Oak or the first Bluebells of spring creates inner peace, minimising the need for any materialism.

I feel a sense of pride and social history as my forefather's farmed the land where a stand. The same scene is so different throughout the seasons, bracken fronds uncurl with sweet smells of Honeysuckle and bird song can be heard in Spring, glossy green leaves and blooms of Summer turn to russet reds and acorns in Autumn and trees become stark silhouettes against the snow white fields in Winter.

About Debbie Whitfield.

A lifelong interest in Art began when I was a child but after achieving an A grade for “O” Level my creativity took a back seat whilst I pursued a career working with children with special needs and brought up two daughters. In 2009 I followed my instinct and enrolled at Art College studying towards Foundation Degree in Drawing at University of Cumbria. Realising that Photography was my passion I transferred to Bachelor of Arts Degree in Wildlife & Media.

My image “Fast Flowing Fountain” was awarded 1st prize for Cumbria County Council's “Great Outdoors” Adult Learner’s Week Photography Competition in 2010. I have lived on a farm near Carlisle for over twenty five years surrounded by the beautiful scenery and wildlife of North Cumbria which is my inspiration. Pet Photography has recently become a speciality - I capture stunning outdoor pet portraits, dynamic dog agility and commercial pet product photography. I was recently commissioned by Carrs Billington to photograph Horslyx an equine product on location at stables in Cumbria.
